PARK MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL INFORMATION
Dear Chester Avenue Dog Park Member,
It's that time of year again! It's time to renew your membership to the Chester Avenue Dog Park. Membership now runs from October 1st through September 30th. That means that on October 1st the lock will be changed and you must renew your membership before that date in order to continue using the park. Everything you need to renew is here on the website. Dues remain $62.50 for the 12 month period. Checks can be made out to Florence Selvin or Vince Whittacre. Cash is also accepted.
Please take the time to fill out the RENEWAL FORM COMPLETELY. The rabies info is not optional. We need documentation of that vaccination. There are two places to sign. Page two states that you have read and agree to abide by the rules of the dog park (these rules will be posted on the bulletin board at the park and are included on pages 4-6 of the application. We do not need these back, just for you to sign stating that you read them) and page three is a copy of the waiver that you signed when you first joined the park. EVERY PERSON who brings a dog to the park must sign this part of the application (this includes other family members, children, dog walkers, pet sitters, etc.). If you have a dog walker or pet sitter please make arrangements to have them sign pages 2 & 3 of your application BEFORE you turn it in and pick up your key for this next year. This is not optional.
We are also requesting that you volunteer some of your time in an effort to keep the park up & running over the next year. Please indicate on your renewal application which committee you will serve on over the next year. You can choose more than one! The park depends on its members. That means YOU. And if everyone pitches in all of the work doesn't have to fall on the same handful of people time after time. Committees are listed at the bottom of this page, and on the bulletin board at the park. Please if you have any ideas for any of the committees feel free to speak up!
Once you read and complete the enclosed application there are four ways in which you can pick up a key. Please see THERE ARE FOUR WAYS TO RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP (below) for specifics. The first in-park renewal day is this Sunday from 10:00am-12noon and 4:00-5:00pm.
If you have any questions you can email them to me at jchapman@mail.med.upenn.edu OR you can call 267-872-6727. You will most likely receive a quicker response if you email me rather than call.
Please remember this is YOUR park. Its success depends on YOU. If there are any projects you would like to undertake that would make the park a better place, strengthen our relationship with Park Pleasant, or spread the word around the neighborhood about how great the park is, PLEASE don't hesitate to do something. Put a sign up in the bulletin board and send an email to the group to summon participants & help.
See you at the park!

You can mail a check for $62.50 to Anne Thomforde Thomas (4516 Chester Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19143) with a COMPLETED renewal application AND a self-addressed, stamped envelope. She will then mail a key to your home. She will not send keys unless you provide this envelope WITH A STAMP.
Some other way
You may contact Jennifer or Anne to make alternate arrangements to renew your membership. These arrangements are subject to availability (I'm usually at the park at least twice daily) please realize that you may need to be flexible as I am volunteering to do this and have many other non-dog responsibilities.

COMMITTEES
Administrative/Membership Assistance
Help out with some of the behind-the-scenes duties of the park. Assist in membership renewal and following up with potential new members. Make sure the bulletin board remains organized and functional. Work on updating the website and including a members-only space including a comprehensive database of members. This group also monitors/requests help to man CADP information tables at the seasonal fairs (i.e. Bark in the Park, Clark Park Festival, Cedar Park Fair, etc). Maintains finances.
Administrative Chair: Vince Whittacre (Mildred & Mabel) rogerandvince@gmail.com
Beautification (aka: Grounds/Gardening)
This committee seeks members who will take charge of certain planting beds (those already established and those that can be created) throughout the park (along each length of the park, the few flower beds in the Southeast corner, the area around the water bowl, etc). Volunteers also needed to organize/run the spring & fall park clean up days, paint/upkeep benches, water plants & trees, etc. Tree tenders are also needed. ALL SKILL LEVELS ARE WELCOME.
Beautification Chair: Sharon Richter (Toaster) smrrichter@uslifeline.com
Park Pleasant Outreach
Park Pleasant has generously provided the space for our park. Show your appreciation by visiting their residents (you can even take your dog on therapy visits once it has gone through a short interview), help out with the Halloween parade and the annual holiday cards that are given to residents showcasing the dogs of the park decked out in holiday garb, arrange your own outreach activity that shows your appreciation to Park Pleasant and all that they have done for us.
Park Pleasant Outreach Chair: Don Gensler (Oso) dgensler@design.upenn.edu
Special Projects
Lighting, water, a new fence, the bulletin boardcthese are all examples of special projects that have taken place in the park. This committee works on an as-needed basis to get projects done at the park. Examples of tasks for Special Projects committee members may include: fund-raising, mapping out the specific work plans, pricing & buying materials, organizing workers.
Special Projects Chair: Dan Romaine (Lucy) dromaine@hotmail.com
Sunshine Committee
This committee is charged with spreading goodwill and cheer throughout the dog park and neighboring community. We do this by sending cards to members (sympathy, congratulations, new baby, etc.) and by organizing socials/happy hours. We are also the group to handle member & neighbor suggestions, complaints, etc. A few projects we'll be working on over the next year we will be: an "In Memoriam" page for our website, a formalized way to handle complaints, and sending welcome emails to new park members.
Sunshine Committee Chair: Jennifer Chapman (Chase, Jessie & Gus) dogparksunshine@gmail.com or jchapman@mail.med.upenn.edu
